Sample design - full information: Stage A. Use of geographical stratification on a NUTS2 level proportionally to the population data of urban areas. Stage B. Based on the data of the Hellenic Statistical Authority 2011 population census, 128 surface units were targeted, on the basis of migrant population density in each area. These surface units were distributed proportionally to the above geographical strata. Stage C. In each surface area households were enumerated starting from the northeast corner of the surface area and moving clockwise. The data of the household enumeration were transferred to the fieldwork agency and by simple random sampling 18 households were chosen in each surface unit in order to conduct the survey contacts. Stage D. In each selected household the respondent was chosen using the Kish grid method. Stage E. During the fieldwork the selected households of the initial sample were asked whether migrant population lived in the two neighboring households in every direction (previous or following households). This method of focused enumeration was used to locate migrants in the field. The 13 administrative regions of the country were considered as strata and the sample size of each region was proportional to the size of the immigrant population in each region according to the 2011 population census (Stathopoulou et al., 2018: 6)

Description: The dataset was supplied with two sampling weights. IMWFIN weights the sample according to the probability of being sampled, but does not adjust for the size of the immigrant population. IMWFIN2 (weight) contains the same sampling weight, but in addition, it weighs the immigrant sample down to population size

<notes subject="sampling method">4.3: In total, 80 sampling sites from the 13 strata were selected to identify individuals who belonged to the survey population of migrants. For the native population, 80 sampling sites were also randomly selected, close to those selected for the migrant population, to ensure comparability between the two population groups (matched geographic sample). Another 48 sampling points from the urban areas of the country were also randomly selected so that the resulting final sample of the native population approximated the population distribution of the urban population of the country by region according to the 2011 population census (boost sample) (Stathopoulou et al., 2018: 6)</notes>
<notes subject="sample size">5.1-5.8: The information in this section refers to the sample size of the survey as a whole and that information about the sample size of the subgroups in which the survey is partitioned can be found in section 6. 5.2: Immigrants were oversampled to get larger group sizes, and to facilitate comparison between Greek citizens and migrants</notes>
<notes subject="data collection">The survey questionnaire was common for both migrants and non-migrants. The questionnaire consists of closed-ended questions, based mainly on the respective questionnaire of the European Social Survey with some additions from the Hellenic Statistical Authority Health survey and the Longitudinal Survey of Immigrants to Canada (Statistics Canada 2005). The questionnaire was translated in Greek (the English original version was taken from the ESS) and elaborated by National Centre for Social Research (ΕΚΚΕ) and Metron Analysis in printed form</notes>

<notes>3.1: Countries have been classified as ’developing’ or not according to the World Bank’s definition of high-income countries. The list of countries falling within this category appears at the beginning of the questionnaire. 3.3: In defining the target population groups for analysis in the MIGHEAL study, it was decided to use the criterion of citizenship rather than country of birth, due to the overwhelming significance of citizenship and the institutional framework governing conditions of stay of non-Greek citizens, for life experiences and outcomes in Greece. Migrants of Greek descent were treated completely differently, and were afforded access to Greek citizenship. On account of their Greek citizenship, in the MIGHEAL study they are grouped together with non-immigrant Greek citizens. 3.5: The figure listed is an estimation of migrants originating from a developing country and holding a valid residence permit according to data from the Ministry of Interior for August 2016</notes>
