Sample design - full information: In Portugal (Roma target group), data were available at settlement or municipality level only. It was therefore necessary to demarcate smaller areas to be used as PSUs, usually using maps, and then to estimate the target group concentrations within the smaller areas. This meant apportioning the target group population to these areas evenly, or using local knowledge to identify areas where the target group lives

<notes subject="sampling method">Although random route was planned in Portugal (and Greece), ultimately random selection of addresses was not practicable in these countries. In Portugal, this was due to a Roma mediator who interfered with household/respondent selection; because of time constraints, Portugal deliberately selected small, concentrated areas within PSUs using local knowledge. More detailed information about these challenges are detailed in the technical report ( https://fra.europa.eu/en/project/2015/second-european-union-minorities-and-discrimination-survey )</notes>

However, the questionnaire is likely to have been offered in Portuguese (which is likely to have been the language of choice for some of the respondents). 7.9: The questionnaire consisted of ten sections. All respondents were asked the first eight sections. However, some questions within these sections were relevant only for specific respondent groups or where location sampling was applied. Filters were applied to a large proportion of the questions. The figure listed in 7.9. is the approximate number of all question items included in the EU-MIDIS II core questionnaire.</notes>
