Survey include subgroup of majority pop: No
Survey designed as a general population survey: No
Sampling strategy - closed: Random sampling/selection (i.e. probability sampling, of some kind)
Sampling strategy - open: (Sampling Process for the Refresh Population) The stratification criterion of the duration of residence in Switzerland was not applied for the refresh sample in 2018 because some groups were too small for the sampling. Thirty-six strata were defined based on gender and geopolitical criteria. To allow for in-depth comparative analyses, approximately 190 interviews were targeted for each strata. To reach the expected number of interviews, the requested sample size was based on an anticipated participation rate of 31%. For the nationalities/regions included in 2016 (panel sample), the refresh sample size was estimated to reach the target considering a 50% response rate among the panel. In addition, a reserve sample of 20% of the main sample was drawn.

Representative of the population: Yes
Sample design - full information: Registered-based sampling was used to obtain a stratified random sample. This ensured no coverage problem and that the inclusion criteria for the target population are observable. Also, register-based sampling allowed the calculation of post-stratification weights to adjust for potential non-response error.

<notes subject="data collection">The questionnaire was adapted from the 2016 survey and was finalized after two internal workshops and different tests. The English version was used for the work. It was also submitted to 10 Master's students, some with a migratory trajectory, during a one-semester seminar on data collection, to obtain feedback on comprehension of the questions. The English version was proofread by two translators before being translated to the five other languages by a professional service. The same approach was used for all the documentation (letters, flyers). Native speakers at nccr - on the move also conducted a final check of the translated document. Some errors remained, which were corrected during the pre-tests. As for the number of questions, it varied on the questionnaire: 86(Sample 1- Panel), 116 (Sample 2- Fresh Sample)</notes>
